Collage in Therapy
a creative tool for exploring the unconscious
Online workshop for psychologists, psychotherapists
Teacher: Francesca Belgiojoso
6-hour training on collage-making and its therapeutic applications.
Info
Why collage?
Collage-making is a powerful, non-verbal method that taps into the unconscious, allowing clients to express emotions, explore inner conflicts, and make connections in a visual and intuitive way.
Using a combination of found images and personal photos, collage bypasses the defenses of verbal communication, fostering a deeper self-awareness and insight.
It is particularly effective in groups, where the act of creating and sharing collage pieces can enhance group cohesion and facilitate discussions about shared and divergent experiences.
How can this tool benefit your practice?
- For clients who struggle with verbal expression, collage provides a different medium for storytelling and personal narrative.
- The process of selecting, combining, and arranging images often leads to unexpected connections and insights that can be revealing for both the therapist and the client.
- Collage-making brings an element of play, which can help reduce anxiety and foster a more open and explorative mindset in the therapeutic space.
- In a group context, the playful and creative element of collage makes the process more engaging, reducing resistance or anxiety related to direct verbal confrontation. This can help bring out less explicit voices within the group.
