Judy Weiser’s PhotoTherapy Techniques
This is the original workshop on PhotoTherapy Techniques conceived and taught worldwide (Canada, the U.S., Mexico, England, Scotland, Finland, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Italy and Korea) by Judy Weiser since 1982.
Judy Weiser approved Francesca Belgiojoso to teach this workshop after a specific training at Istituto di Terapia Familiare di Firenze, hosted by Rodolfo De Bernart, in 2011. Since then she has been the only trainer in Italy approved by Judy Weiser to teach her Techniques. In 2021 she adapted the workshop to the online format and translated it into English, training also psychotherapists of different nationalities.
It offers a unique opportunity to experiment and learn how to use in clinical psychology the 5 techniques developed by Canadian psychologist and art therapist Judy Weiser, a pioneer in the use of photographs in therapy.
Through different modules, we will work with Photo-projective, Photos taken or collected by the client, Photographs of the client taken by other people, Family Album, and Self-Portrait, learning how to effectively integrate them into the psychotherapeutic work.
We will guide you through the history and theory of PhotoTherapy and therapeutic photography, delving into how, when, and why to use photographs in therapy.
Through practical exercises and role-play, you will have the opportunity to work with photographs taken by you in response to specific guidance provided by the instructor.
We will explore your family photographs and encourage you to take self-portraits, allowing you to experience the expressive and reflective power of these techniques directly on yourself.
In each module, we will dedicate time to reflect on how, when, and why to propose Judy Weiser’s techniques to your patients. We will provide ample space for the supervision of your clinical cases, offering personalized feedback and allowing you to acquire practical and theoretical skills to effectively integrate these methodologies into your professional work.
This course represents a unique opportunity to explore, experiment, and deepen the use of Judy Weiser’s techniques, enriching your professional toolkit and enabling you to offer more comprehensive and effective therapeutic support to your patients.
PhotoTherapy Techniques
Judy Weiser’s 5 techniques, when proposed in a sequence, allow for a brief and focused personal journey. The benefits for the patient are maximized by harnessing the evocative power of photographs to facilitate the exploration of their inner worlds.
PHOTOPROJECTIVE | The use of photographs, proposed by the therapist to the patient as a projective tool.
PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN OR COLLECTED BY THE PATIENT | Working with photographs brought by the patient in response to themes proposed by the therapist.
PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE PATIENT TAKEN BY OTHERS | Working on the patient’s personal image from an external perspective.
FAMILY ALBUM | Working with photographs around the patient’s story, family and relationships.
